06.30.05 - A Tear To Your Eye

Here's a truly heartwarming story about the bond formed between a little
girl and some construction workers that makes you believe that we CAN
make a difference when we give a child the gift of our time...

A young family moved into a house, next door to a vacant lot. One day a
construction crew turned up to start building a house on the empty lot.

The young family's 5-year-old daughter naturally took an interest in all
the activity going on next-door and spent much of each day observing the
workers. Eventually the construction crew, all of them
gems-in-the-rough, more or less adopted her as a kind of project mascot.

They chatted with her, let her sit with them while they had coffee and
lunch breaks, and gave her little jobs to do here and there to make her
feel important.

At the end of the first week they even presented her with a pay envelope
containing a couple of dollars. The little girl took this home to her
mother who said all the appropriate words of admiration and suggested
that they take the two dollar "pay" she had received to the bank the
next day to start a savings account.

When they got to the bank, the teller was equally impressed and asked
the little girl how she had come by her very own pay check at such a
young age.

The little girl proudly replied, "I worked last week with the crew
building the house next door to us."

My goodness gracious," said the teller, "and will you be working on the
house again this week, too?"

The little girl replied, "I will if those assholes at Home Depot ever
deliver the fuckin sheet rock..."

Kind of brings a tear to the eye

  • I noticed you CAN take things back that you say on the internet. I don't think you offened any serial killers... ;-)

  • how are you feeling?

By Blogger fugusashi, At June 30, 2005 1:15 PM

  • I feel fine. That's been the kicker with all of this cancer. I felt fine before I was diagnosed, no symptoms etc. The chemo was a 'drag' but not too bad (I've seen people go through WAY worse) The operations really sucked, but all in all, I feel great, still swimming and kayaking. I'm still a little numb even though I had a funny feeling that there was a problem, but I'm up for the challenge though not looking forward to chemo again or the steroids they put you on. They really make me emotionally nuts-o. You may get to see that in my blogging!
I do feel like I'll get through this chapter too. I did tell my oldest son (11) what was going on (not in great detail but enough so if he hears me and my wife talking about it, he won't be surprised) The toughest thing was telling him the first time. Many tears flowed.
    Thanks for asking...

  • I think you'll get through this chapter as well. Attitude is everything.

Phil, I'll keep visiting your blog, but I'm not going to be blogging anymore. I don't feel it's been a healthy thing for me. I still have the blog, but it's not published publicly anymore. Thanks for all your support. =)

  • Paula,
I went to visit your blog and I noticed it was gone. I think it can border on being very healthy and also, quite the opposite. I felt Mr Bunkton's (or whatever) was a very unhealthy blog, very degrading toward women. Not a fan of that. But hey, that's my opinion. Please DO visit and post. I will miss your witty posts and great sense of humor. You know where to reach me if you want.
    All the best.
    Phil

  • P.S. - Watch out for Sharks!

By Blogger :phil:, At June 30, 2005 2:17 PM

  • Thanks Phil. Yes, bunkton and his crew were part of the problem, but I brought the problem on myself.

You watch out for sharks, too! =)

  • Please don't be a stranger and don't get down on yourself. Stay away from the 'Dark Side'...

By Blogger :phil:, At June 30, 2005 4:21 PM

  • Phil, glad you're staying positive. The story with the little girl was darling!!

Paula, I may end up sounding like an idiot, but the reason I didn't post a comment on your site was Bunkton - I feared he'd click on my name and start leaving obscene comments on my blog. Don't stop expressing yourself because of him or anyone else!! Just get a new blog :)

  • Thanks, Chloe. You are an extremely intelligent young woman. I have decided to not let them shut me down, but I probably won't post for awhile.

    Bunkton and Merkley are asswipes.

    What an idiot I was.

  • I was going to sic Sharkie on him, but I thought this is better. I will restrain myself but I REALLY feel like screwing with this jerks head.

  • Phil,

Oh, that is so tempting to post on my blog.

However, if i do, there will be no end to the retribution.

Anyway, I saved it to my computer. I think I'll print it, put it on my wall and throw darts at it.

Really, it was bad enough that the dummy was calling himself a cunt.

  • Phil, kudos on the pic, it's great!

Paula, thank you! Glad you're keeping the blog. Remember, CUNT stands for CREEPY UGLY NAUSEATING TWIT

  • I'll remember that, Chloe. Thanks.

    You guys are great.

  • haha, funny funny story. I have a similar one.

An adorable little girl was at church Easter Sunday in her finest. The preacher was interviewing the children about their new Easter clothes and the little girl said
"I love my new dress, but I can't wear it again"
The preacher asked why and the little girl said
"Mommy says its a bitch to iron"
