07.27.05 HOT!

It's going to be another scorcher today in NY. I am, unfortunatly, in the city today. I do like coming in for the most part. It's a great place to visit, with loads of interesting people to watch. The thing I hate the most, however, is that almost everything outdoors smells like urine. Sometimes I wish I was 'hard of smelling' but alas, I have the keen sense of smell of a bloodhound. It's also a drag in elevators. Did you know that elevators smell different to REAL short people. I will hopefully get out of here by 1 pm and maybe home by 3 pm or so. Then, time to hit the pool and then the computer.
My boss, who I shall call 'Paul', is a rather hip guy who has been very supportive of me with dealing with my 'health issues' that have risen over the past year and a half. Some people who I work with, think that he's a geeky, star wars loving, techno-nurd. And I think 'she' thinks that I am too. Humph, some people ;-) But anyway, he was nice enough to let me work from home for the next few days, so that will be a treat. Not just because I can sit at the computer in my underware (I do that at work anyway - I just happen to have pants over them!), but I'll be able to work at my own pace and take a swim break whenever I wish. Plus, my 'office' for lack of a more descriptive word, is in the subterainian part of our house (the basement) and it is much cooler there. So hopefully I will be able to be productive and finish this mini-project I am working on.

  • I love NYC. Any excuse to go there and I'm for it. I don't necessarily notice a urine smell, but by the end of the day walking around, I usually look forward to s shower.

  • I am not short but have been known to have a few conversations with the short folk. Your observation is true........elevators do smell differently to them..they mentioned something like it smelling like the underside of a 'watchmacallit'candy bar....whatever that means. You're lucky to have such an understanding boss, letting you work at home and all. I'd probably get more work done if I were at home......instead, I am stuck in the office with this geeky, star wars loving, techno-nurd instant messaging me all day. Oh well.

  • I've never been to NY, I don't think I would like it. Too many people. It's nice you are able to work from home...you're not a Star Wars geek? Come ooonnn, face the truth, you like the Sci Fi shows...

  • WOW. _Karyl, that's amazing. I too work with someone who IMs me all day. I think she's geek-ette and one of the founding members of the Phil Hater's Club. Plus, she can't spell the word 'jsut'
    ;-)

  • When I worked in downtown Houston, the homeless used to urinate into the parking garage stairwells that led up to the street. I used to see people grabbing the handrails when they walked up and down the stairs and I would think to myself "You people are crazy. There is piss all over those handrails."

Not to be a smart-ass or anything, but how do real short people know that elevators smell different to tall people? Did you mean CROWDED elevators smell different? ;)

  • Phil, not only are we 'sole-mates,' apparently we're 'smell-mates' too. Call us society's sharks :)

  • I'll say this about that:
If you are very short, and it's a crowded elevator you would rather be with tall smart-asses, than with tall smelly ones...

Chloe, it's amazing. Nice footed & keen smellin',
    we are a minority.

  • to mr. schprock,
I think someone flushed it last night, it wasn't too bad at all. Maybe they just added one of those pink urinal mints in it.

Karyl, I feel your pain (I am your pain?)

Wendy, the city really isn't that bad, it's an amazing place
    - the center ot the world!
And I'm really not a geek!

  • I suppose wherever you live is the center of the world. It's all about perspective. I live in wide open spaces and tall buildings sorta woogie me out, well, not really , but millions of people do. I had a feeling you were a fellow geek!
