Question of the Day
Has anyone ever done this to someone, or had it happen to them?
- Someone will repeatedly post comments on your site, nothing rude or inappropriate, and you ignore them?
- You post comments on someone's Blog, again, nothing rude or inappropriate, and they ignore you? Usually you have Bloggers in common.

16 Comments:
I get ignored all the time. I love it when bloggers respond to comments. And getting alot of comments is not a good excuse for not responding. I know bloggers who get twenty comments on a post and respond to each one individually. I can understand not responding to comments on older posts, but for a new post, you should respond. When I was blogging, I tried to respond to everyone. I think I might have occasionally missed some, though. I also tried to reciprocate with comments on their blog. It's alot of work, but if you care about your readers, you should try.
Otherwise, turn the damn comments off.

What's particularly maddening is when they only respond to one out of every five comments. Very, very rude.

Paula, I agree on both of your posts!
It's sort of like sending out thank you cards.

This is a very timely question, Phil. I don't think I thought it was important to respond to someone's comment on your own blog as it was to read the blog of the person who commented on your blog and then post a comment on their blog at some point in time not to far into the future from when they commented on your blog.
Phew...sorry...that was truly a run-on. It kind of bothers me when I have posted a comment on someone's blog but they haven't taken the time to comment on mine (which makes me think they didn't read it.) That kind of hurts but I'm oversensitive so don't mind me. I've said some pretty friggin funny stuff lately on my blog but when I see a big fat "0" next to the word "comments", it pisses me off a little. I know, it's not about me...okay...maybe it is. I'm so glad you asked! :)

I don't know if there's such a thing as "blogger's etiquette," but I don't mind having my scintillating comments unresponded to. I always assume they're being read.

I try to comment on others' blogs but don't necessarily respond to all the comments left for me. Paula, I'm so sorry, and thanks for the lesson!! I'll try to reform my ways :)
There's a girl who first commented on my blog, and we became regular readers of one another. Then one day...poof, she vanished. She responds to others' comments, but not mine, and hasn't commented on my blog in ages. I mean, I'm still funny, right? RIGHT?

Well for me...I dont expect blog owners to respond to my comments. If they do, great. I continue to check in daily with them because I enjoy their writings, not just because they do or dont respond one on one to me.
As for me responding to comments left on my blog.... I enjoy knowing people take time out of their day to read and give input. I feel as a host that if I want to continue the relationship (if thats what you call it) I should let them know I appreciate them. I dont know if I've answered the question. I'm so confused :)

Sometimes I feel like if I read a newly found bloggers blog--and I post a comment on an old post--its wasted energy
I hardly go back and read my old stuff to see if it was commented on--that post was so "last week"
But yes, it does suck to be ignored when you comment on a current post.
Found you via paul and Mr Schprock.

I don't expect every comment to be replied to by any means, but I do feel a comment now and then is a nice thing to do. I too am rather sensitive, it's one of my 'things' I suppose. Thank you everyone for your reponses, I'd repond individually but I don't have the time... (ha-ha)

Groan--i hate it when i read a post and my meglaminiacle brain tells me it's all about me, me, me.
awkward silence.
Well! I don't comment on my comments b/c . . . somehow . . . it's not me. Lemme think. I feel as if I have to justify what I "really" meant in the post . . . instead, I like to see how people interpret my writing for what it "is" (it's the theorist in me).
Sometimes people take what I might mean in a totally new direction (for example, one blogger seems to be worried about my current state of mind when really I am trying to chuckle or point out the ironies of a situation). In these cases, I want to comment back--but then when would it end? And besides, maybe the commentor has a point I should listen to w/o commenting back . . .
Sometimes people leave clever bits of info or witty comments that make me LoL. I swell up inside and want to give cyber hugs . . . but, for some reason (I blogged about this once too, I think), chances are, I may never say anything . . .
I'd rather go to their site, read their work, and offer a few minutes to really think about what _they_ have to say . . . unless it's a RLF (Real Life Friend) who can track me down and thump my head for no response . . .
Uh . . . ehem. Gee, thanks for asking. And you?

Chloe, I wasn't thinking of anyone in particular when I posted that comment. Your blog etiquette has always been lovely, and you have left some kick-ass comments on my blog. Thank you.

Aww, Paula, thank you!! I miss your blog...
I didn't take it personally, it just made me realize that I have a tendency not to respond sometimes. Mostly because it hadn't occured to me that people check back on the comments. Which is silly, since I do it all the time :)

Of course, NONE of the people I was directing towards, came by to comment, so I guess that, as they say, is that ;-)
All of you show 'proper blogger's etiquette', whatever the hell that is, but I enjoy all of you, and am glad that we share comments.
(Karyl, this was NOT directed to you)

I do my best to respond to everyone and if you have your comments e-mailed to you, you will know when someone comments on an old post and can go back and respond to them. I think I may have missed some but not on purpose. I think you should always respond to people. It's polite and if they are like me, they look for it and are happy when they see you care enough to give the very best. Or at least a wiseass remark.

Phil,
I just realized that you left a comment on my blog ..I thought it was too soon for anyone to read it.
Thanks for dropping in and commenting, it's good to know that someone is out there reading my fledgeling blog.
