This is News?
This is not a funny topic, and it's kind of a no brainer, but I just loved this Doctors name. All of you smokers out there, PLEASE QUIT...
NEW YORK (Reuters Health) - For people with cancer of the larynx or lower pharynx, continuing to smoke or drink alcohol make it less likely that they'll survive, while eating a diet rich in vegetables and vitamin C improves their survival, a new study shows.
The rest of the story. Just because he's a Dikshit doesn't mean this isn't good advice.

"One might think, now I that have cancer, what's the point of stopping smoking?Dr. Rajesh P. Dikshit commented to Reuters Health.
But there is clearly a benefit in doing that; it will improve your survival,"

Since I'm a smoker, I'm ashamed to say I was rejoicing when someone said they're thinking of reversing the smoking ban in NYC because the bars and restaurants are hurting for business. This post has kind of taken the fun out of it all--here I was looking forward to lighting 'em up and knocking 'em down. But seriously, that's good to know. Man, I gotta quit these things...

Being a former smoker and a current cancer person, I don't care for smoking.
I hope they keep the current law for restaurants, maybe change it for bars, but I hate smelling smoke when I eat.
NJ still lets people smoke.

Where is the news? I have read the article over and over again and I can’t find anything new?
Or is it just newsworthy because they have figures now? Guess that’s it, but it is still interesting! Same goes for the guys name…. interestingly funny :)

The only time my mother will quit smoking is after she's done being cremated...
I quit after 14 years. That was 3 or 4 years ago and I still have problems breathing sometimes. My mom has been smoking for 45 years...

Yes, I know this, and yet I find smoking cigarettes is much better for you than my usual crack.
As a loosely-related aside, I once typed a report for a doctor named Dr. Harry Vajna (at your cervix).
Please send some Skoal then, if I can't smoke. I think it's more feminine anyway, don't you? Thank you.

This is hysterical. This reminds me of that commercial to get rid of acne. His name is Dr. Zidsmore.
Zits more? More zits? Awful.

I visited NYC right after the ban started. Every club I went to had a large group of people huddled together out front. Often times spilling into the street. And the poor bar employee at the door had to collect all of their drinks as they stepped out. It was a mess. Didn't seem like a very good idea.
Then, over to NJ. When I asked a patron on the stool next to me if I could light up, he looked at me like I just asked if it was ok to drink there. "Of course you can. This is Jersey," as he pulls one out himself to prove his point.
I agree that smoking indoors sucks. Fortunately, I live in a place where it's warm most of the time, and all my favorite restaurants have patios. Usually I eat outside, so it's no concern.
We have a group of 8 or so cities here, all connected in one big metropolitan area. Some have bans, some don't. So you have one bar that doesn't allow smoking, with another right down the street that does. Obviously it's had an adverse effect on some business owners in the towns that instituted the ban.
I'm all for everyone quitting smoking. It's a nasty habit. I still do it occasionaly (about a pack a month). And I'm all for me quitting too. But I'm against the government making the decision. It should be up to the bar and restaurant owners. There are enough people that don't smoke to keep a business going, and I can think of many places that didn't allow smoking even before the ban.
My 3.5 cents.

Dikshit happens to be a common Western Indian last name. Unfortunately, there is no appropriate sound in English which replaces the Indian version of "t" ...
Many people write it as "Dixit" [Pronounced as: deek-sheet]
He'd be crazy to carry on Dikshit while living in US :-)
