What's Wrong with These Pictures?
On December 21, 1970, Elvis Presley paid a visit to President Richard M. Nixon at the White House in Washington, D.C. The meeting was initiated by Presley, who wrote Nixon a six-page letter requesting a visit with the President and suggesting that he be made a "Federal Agent-at-Large" in the Bureau of Narcotics and Dangerous Drugs. During the brief Oval Office meeting, Elvis presented Nixon with a commemorative World War II-era Colt .45 pistol and told Nixon he felt the Beatles promoted an "anti-American" theme appealing to violence, drug use, dissent and protest. Now this seems utterly ridiculous to me. Talk about putting the fox incharge of the chicken coop. Elvis was a MAJOR drug addict. Why would he be put in charge of drugs. Maybe he could have been a "Large Federal Agent in Charge of Testing Drugs" or something.
Take up now to the present day....
WASHINGTON - Members of Congress and the Bush administration are at odds over whether security is compromised by an Arab company's takeover of operations at six major American seaports. Some lawmakers expressed concern Sunday that the safeguards are insufficient to thwart infiltration of the vital facilities by terrorists.
At issue is the purchase last week of London-based Peninsular and Oriental Steam Navigation Co., by Dubai Ports World, a state-owned business in the United Arab Emirates, or UAE. Peninsular and Oriental runs major commercial operations in New York, New Jersey, Baltimore, New Orleans, Miami and Philadelphia.
Is it Me? Am I fucked up for thinking that this is a bad idea? Why don't we make Bin Laden in charge of Homeland Security? Why isn't the United States in charge of this in the first place. Great Britian is in charge now. No wonder the world is going to hell in a hand basket. Maybe we should burn embassies in protest like the rest of the world seems to do.

That was just Elvis' way of getting himself off of Nixon's enemies list.

This port authority story is another one that's giving me nightmares.
We've been asleep at the wheel allowing a foreign company, albeit an ally, run our ports. This possiblity of being sold to an untrustworthy government has been there all along.
I can't believe there is any question at all in Congress as to what should be done. Somehow the contract should be nullified...but is there a legal way to do that if the contract wasn't written that way?
My husband works for the Govt...all the contracts they work with have clauses in them that state that if the company is taken over by a foriegn company, the contract is nullified.

Ah, how I long for simpler times; Elvis packing a gun in the White House (they frown on that today), and Nixon, who in retrospect, wasn't such a bad deal. Afterall, he only wanted to be King, not God.
On a slightly different note, on the Dialy Show, they showed the Attorney Generalissimo stating that presidents as far back as George Washington authorized electronic eavesdropping during war time (I'm not sure how Washington's NSA did that)? He went on to say that Dubya is authorized since we are at war, and that the wiretaps are aimed at Al-Qaeda.
But the war is in Iraq, which has nothing to do with Al-Qaeda, except as it relates to the "War on Terror" which plainly is not a REAL war, in the constitutional sense. My question then becomes, "Can Dubya listen in on pot smokers as part of the "War on Drugs"?

Elvis was such a wackjob. He was delusional. Wanting to be a Fed was just the icing on the cake.
Best immitation of The King was done by Andy Kaufman: himself a fellow wackjob, somehow getting too far into that whole wrestling schtick to where he believe it all.

I'm going back to bed and pulling the covers over my head.
Better put up the Do Not Disturb sign too.

This is so unbelievable our Governor is fighting big against this although I am not sure how well that will work. But damn I think Bush has lost his mind. The other day I saw that the UAE gave 100 million dollars to Katrina relief. I just do not understand where is all this money? Oh well we as Americans have a great ability to turn a blind eye to things. Seems things are out of hand beyond repair.
