A Visit to Hammacher Schlemmer

While in NYC yesterday, I stopped in the Hammacher Schlemmer store on 57th street. It's a very cool place, sort of a higher-end Brookstone store.
One of the things that caught my eye was this Carbon Chassis Velocipede. It looks like quite the bargain at a mere $13,999.95.

Another fun item was this Hydrofoil Water Scooter. Click here to see a video of this. I would love to take it out on my kayak lake. I'm sure there are laws against it because it's fun. A bargain at $499.95

Last, and certainly not least, was this puppy. There was a lady working this thing like nobody's business (which I guess it isn't). There was no way she was putting this down. Her eyes were closed while she manuvered it over her body. I wanted to say to her "A penny for your thoughts" but I restrained myself.

All in all, a fun visit. If I ever have a wad of money I don't know what to do with, I'll be back

  • WOW! Majorly cool store...that water scooter would be great at the lake this summer. I'm sure you saw the transparent kayak? Probably not as fun unless you are in crystal clear waters :(
I think I will order that progression wake up clock that uses light, sound and scent (notice they don't use the word alarm) to gently awaken you :)
HATE the rude noise of alarms first thing in the morning! Nothing like heart palpitations and a state of shock to start the day off right ;)

  • What is that thing? Some massage tool?

I'm with you on the hydrofoil. It looks a lot less terrifying than the other contraption for sure ;)

  • Kayla: I didn't see the transparent kayak, I guess because it was transparent ;-)
The alarm clock we have is so annoying, but I guess that's effective for getting me out of bed. A progressive one does sound tempting though. I always felt ice cold water being thrown at me would be the best. In about 6 weeks, I'll be diving into my pool after a kayak ride to get me going.

Gris: I think it's a "personal massage wand" The woman knew a lot about it apparently. The lake by me is very calm at times, it would be a lot of fun. It's really not too expensive either, about $500 U.S.D.

  • I want a Robotic Floor Vac. They're obviously coming down in price.

  • Hammacher Schlemmer provides the most entertaining in-flight reading! Its in all those airline mags and makes quite the reading :-)

I've almost quit doing crosswords on planes ever since they feature their entire catalog for perusal.
