Fuck Me Friday

Things really run in cycles, don't they. Yesterday things were great! I got new glasses, I also got a new memory card for my digital camera (256 meg) and another Flash drive (1 gig). This morning I go to move my car so Dana can get to hers and I hear a strange noise, sort of a grinding sound. I get out to look under the car to make sure there are no toys or bikes or anything there...nothing. I get back in and go to put it on the other side of the driveway and KABLOOM! The tire explodes.

So I figure that I ran over a nail or something although it should have gone SSSSSSSsssssssssssssssssssssssss until it ran out of air. So, I get the spare out and the jack and all of the fixens, jack the car up (not off, the car is jacking me off) take the tire off and notice that the car won't let go of my tire. I'm no mechanic, but I know enough to realize that the strut (like a shock absorber) has broken and the spring shattered and went right into the sidewall of the tire. So the tire is like hooked onto the car. I finally free that but now I can't get the spare on because the spring is preventing that from happening. Right now I'm waiting on AAA so they can tow it to my mechanic. I don't know how we will do this since I can't get a tire on the friggin thing. More to come....
On the bright side, at least I wasn't driving it. It could have been deadly.

Mr Mike getting the car ready

Look at the front door on our neighbors house. There is no doorknob, If you knew them it would make sense

  • Dang it!
Not a great way to start the day ;)
Sooo glad you weren't driving it down the road at about 60 when it blew.
    What's with the neighbors??
    Antisocial?
    Meth lab?
    =0)

  • Crazy, no thanks. To the right is my old Volvo that is waiting to be picked up and junked.

Kayla: I was very lucky I wasn't on the highway, that would have been a major bummer. As far as the neighbors go, they are not the most social people in the world. He's German (heavy accent) some think he's a Nazi in hiding and his wife is very quiet and Irish. They are incredibly 'thrifty' too. We all chip in $100 per house and give it to Tony who lives at the end of the street. He plows the snow for us for the entire season. Most people would want $100 per house per snowfall. This guy won't pay. I mean...come on

  • Update: I got the Toyota back today. It was $631.54. I had said to someone that I bet it will cost about $600. I watched a lot of the Price is Right as a kid.
I also had them tow the Volvo away. I don't really feel like a resident of NY State anymore. I don't have a junk car in the driveway

  • Phil,

After reading this, I did a quick Google and ran across:

Perhaps Click and Clack are right, but maybe most Toyota owners die in the crash. Glad it happened in the driveway.

  • Hi Zudi,
Interesting article. My mechanic said he's seen it a lot on Fords but not Toyotas. I was amazed when I tried to pull that tire off and the spring was stuck in the tire like a fishing hook. You just never know....

  • Coulda been some scary stuff with the car, guy.
And the house next door, so they never use the front door to go in, huh?
