The Old Mill
I've always been intrigued by a piece of property in town. There is this very old house that dates back to the early 1900s that sits right outside the center of town. It's not occupied and hasn't been for many years. I've always driven past it but never took the time to stop and explore it. Yesterday I took the time. There used to be a working waterwheel (see photo) that I imagine was the power source of a gristmill or something. The old stone that was used for milling the wheat is sitting outside (see photo). There is also this very cool small suspension bridge on the property along with two
other bridges. I had taken a few more photos but they didn't turn out that well.I tried to find out more about the history of the property but haven't uncovered anything yet. It really is a nice spot. I'm sure though that the property will not be preserved and will be sold to the highest bidder so they can put up McMansions or Condos like they do everywhere else up here

Thanks Lidzy and Paula.
It's a really pretty spot.
Paula,
I thought the target=blank thing was funny. Especially since the guy used it himself after saying how it thought it was not good.

Looks like something you might expect to come across in a little village within the UK.

That's really cool.
I love that bridge!
There is an occupied house here that has a running waterwheel in the front yard.
I have no idea what the history is.
Maybe I'll pursue it now ;-)

i like things like that (oldhouses). There is also a old stone iron furnace that was used during the Revolutionary War to forge the links of the GIANT chain that stretched across the Hudson River to keep the British ships from going up the river. It's just south of West Point

What Boo said.
Also... we just finished reading "The Secret of the Old Mill"... a Hardy Boys Mystery, so this was quite timely. Gorgeous photos as always.

grrr don't get me going about "amercian ugly" that's why I bought into and older neighborhood. Love that mill wheel. maybe you can steal it and haul it off.. Before they grind it up into freeway pulp (?!?!) Its a nice feature for a rock garden :)

The pictures drew only partially up before my commenting here, but enough to see the beautiful spot. Thanks for sharing before it goes away. McMansions rule here too.
