Batter Up?

Labels:

When faced with real-world situations
we need real-life solutions.

After the terrorist attacks on our country, followed by the constant news about potential threats, it became obvious that people need an affordable and portable emergency response kit. With SUBIVOR®, an individual can carry with them an aid against smoke inhalation, biological contaminants, radioactive matter and dust and debris as well as other basic items necessary for emergency response.

This cracked me up. This morning on my way into the city for my weekly visit, this company had a huge booth set up right outside the CitiCorp building on the East Side. They had a dummy with one of the masks on, they were handing out flyers and one woman was wearing the shirt and handing out flyers while sucking away on a cigarette. Lady, I think the smoking will kill you before the terrorists do but that's none of my business. I'm pretty used to seeing the cops with the machine guns outside of CitiCorp, but this shit was unreal. The great thing about New Yorkers is that most everyone couldn't give a shit about the display and most everyone politly took the flyers and then threw them in the garbage. I can just imagine an attack in the subway and someone pulls this thing out. Everyone on the subway will attack that person and steal their mask for their own use so what's the point?

My Little Garden

Here's two photos of my little garden. The first one has my 4 tomato plants (a grape tomato, two beefsteak and some other one) plus there are two pepper plants (one red and one green) and there is some lettuce and sugar snap peas. The next photo has my corn crop. I planted it as a lark to see if anything would grow. I did get some plants but it's looking like only one got polllinated. I know that you have to plant two rows in order for the pollination to happen but something went wrong. We do have a few ears growing on the one plant so we shall see what happens. If nothing else, we can use it for Halloween as a decoration. I also have (to the right of th ecorn) my strawberry plant which is startig to grow and spread. I have it covered from the birds and the deer.
A real exciting post, I know

Circumhorizon Arc

This past weekend was a great one. The weather was incredible for mid-July. It was around 80 with low humidity with incredible clouds and also we were privledged to see a Circumhorizon arc. It was like a light show for about an hour or so with all of the clouds that passed through this one area changing color. I also spent a ton of time in our pool with Grif swimming and just having fun. He is my swimming buddy for sure.

Vacation Time

So we took a vacation, it was great. We started off by going to Rehobeth Beach Delaware to visit with a childhood friend of Dana's, Harry and his wife Jenny and daughter Julie. Dana has not seen Harry since they were about 12. It was many years ago. We had plans to go to Ocean City NJ but we decided to make a stop in Delaware first so Dana made those arangements. In order to save a few bucks, Dana booked us in one motel one night and a differnet one the next night. I am a control freak so I decided to not butt in and let things go as they might. We pulled into the parking lot of the Budget Inn in Dover Delaware and I can swear I heard the music to COPS in the background (bad boys, bad boys, whatcha gonna do, whatcha gonna do when they come for you...) We were in the wrong part of town for sure. So being the adults that we are, Dana called from the parking lot and told them we could not make it and to cancel our reservation. They had no problem with this. I got the feeling this happens often. So we drove 20 minutes further south and went to the place where we were going to spend the second night and just stayed there for both nights. It was a Super 8 motel, much nicer and only $20 more. Cheaper isn't always better.
So it was really great to meet Harry after hearing about him many times. I could see that Dana and Harry really enjoyed seeing each other too.
We stayed there Thursday and Friday then went to Ocean City NJ on Saturday morning for a week of R&R.
The house in the middle was the one we stayed in. Dana's Uncle rented it for us, her folks and her two sisters and famlies. It was so great to live in the lap of luxury for a week. He did this last year too but I was unable to make it then. We spent a lot of time on the beach and down at the boardwalk. They have a big amusement park on the boardwalk with a water park too. Grif and I spent two days down there. He was afraid to go on this big water slide at first, but after he did it he couldn't get enough of it. The ride had to be about 100 feet off the ground and you would go down it on an inner tube that sat two people and it felt like you were going about 40 mph. They had another ride that was even higher than this one and you went down it with no tube. I tried it once and it was like being in a washing machine on the rinse and spin cycle.
Here's a few photos from the vacation. My post is kind of disjointed but so am I
:-)

Surprise, Surprise, Surprise

They are seem to feel they are above the law in this administration...
How in God's name did this country elect these assholes?
Sorry if this is somewhat becoming a political blog but it's hard for me to pretend they are not destroying our way of life and taking our freedoms away. Many may not agree with me, but I don't live in the Bible Belt...that's another story.

The rest of the story....

Bad Day For a Staten Island Peacock

Only in NY...

A deranged Staten Island man (ya think so...) spotted a peacock in the parking lot of a Tottenville Burger King Thursday morning, and mistook the majestic animal for a vampire. According to the Staten Island Advance, the man assaulted the bird in pretty much every possible way except driving a stake through its heart, as onlookers watched in horror.

Witnesses said a man in his late teens or early 20s grabbed the helpless bird by its neck, struck it repeatedly with a baseball bat and kicked it in a Burger King parking lot on Page Avenue.
He then jumped onto the hood of a car and threw the peacock to the ground before running off when he saw police.

A young woman who worked at the Burger King had just taken a break to get a closer look at the peacock, which is a rare sight, that was standing in the parking lot. She had been feeding the bird bread since 7:30 a.m. Shortly after she finished her break, she heard a man screaming "I'm killing a vampire," and then saw that man jumping on and kicking the peacock after tearing off his shirt.

The Advance also reported that the peacock's presence could be explained by the fact that a Prince Bay man named George Burke has been raising the birds for years, and had given a few to a Tottenville resident. When told of the attack on one of his peacock's, Burke responded "What's wrong with parents who let kids turn into [expletive] like that?"

Animal Care & Control officers evaluated the bird's condition at one of their facilities, and decided to euthanize the peacock. Its injuries were just too extensive and severe to be treated. Police are looking for a young man either in his teens or early 20s and urge anyone who can provide an account of the attack and description of the man to contact them.

This is pretty f'd up, even for NYC.
