Let the Fun Begin

I just got this digital 8 track recorder. I want to try to make some music. It's very cool, you are able to record all sorts of different parts and build a song. I can play rhythm, then (try) to play some lead over it. I can add real drums or use the drum machine that I also picked up. I got both units used and saved some major $$$.

The other night Dylan and I were messing around with it and recorded that Kansas song "Carry on Wayward Son". Dylan knows that drum part pretty well but I don't know the guitar part that well at all. I have the basic part of it but I need to practice it more. Here it is if anyone would like to check it out. This, like my Christmas photo, is not the best of me but it's real and spontaneous.

  • Phil,
You guys rocked it!!! I hope you will continue to post your jam sessions.

Did you mic an amp, or did you plug the guitar straight into the recorder? If you used and amp, what brand and what effects did you use?
    Peace,

  • the recorder has a separate input for the guitar, I really just had too much volume on it so that's where the distortion came from. I used a dynamic mic for the drums, a real cheapo Radio Shack one.

I used a Fender Blues Jr amp though and only have a wah-wah pedal. The TASCAM has some built in effects but I'm not familiar with how to use them yet.

Thanks for the compliment Paul, Dylan has gotten better, he's only been playing a year but he has been stepping up his drumming practice His teacher is this guy, Roger Voss, who is quite good. He's in his 30's I think but he certainly knows his way around the drums. Are you still playing much?

This is so much fun to play with my (Wayward) son. My Dad was a very good harmonica player but we never got a chance to jam.

    peace out...

  • Majorly cool Phil!
    Sounds good.
Good toys are fun, aren't they?
I signed up for banjo lessons.
I can pick a simple tune, but not correctly.

  • We are having fun with it. I hope to post some more serious (or better) stuff in the near future. I'm still trying to figure it all out.

    Love ya too Kayla
