Kayaking Sunrise

I was up at 6am on Sunday morning and I had the incredible urge to go kayaking. It looked like it was going to be a great sunrise and I was right. I'm trying to strike while the iron is hot as they say. Why wait until tomorrow? Tomorrow may not come

Kayaking at Dusk

I'm in a Blog posting frenzy lately. I start up again tomorrow and I don't know what to expect (except more of the same probably) so I'll strike while the iron's hot...

Kayak

I decided to do something instead of talk about doing something today. I usually drive past the lake and think that I should have gone kayaking. I sometimes can't fathom how I went kayaking 81 consecutive days two summers ago after I was first diagnosed with cancer. That seems like ions ago. It certainly is not as easy as it was post-op to go as it was pre-op. My abdoman hasn't healed right. I still find it incredibly calming though to be out on the lake, I just am not breaking any speed records now.

These pictures aren't in the correct order but the first one is correct. The second one was taken near the end of the ride but I thought it fit better here. The next two are of the elusive Blue Heron. I saw one on a rock by where I start my ride but it was darker and he took off too quickly. When I was going back to my take off area, I spotted something under the dock and I thought maybe it was it. I was right. I was surprised at how close I was aable to get to him. He may have not felt threatened or he was sick. At one point I thought he was going to attack me so I backed off.
The next two pictures are just some random shots. No, the paddle is not my old nickname. The other shot is looking across the lake. The last two include one of a sunken skull. I'm not sure who's it is and if it's up for grabs. I thought of trying to salvage it but I doubt I have the energy for it. Maybe I can send it to Celeste's homeless guy. The last picture was as I was putting the kayak back on it's cart for the walk home.

07.31.05 Got my Butt Out!

Well, I finally got my butt out to kayak. I got up late (8 am - unheard of for me). My oldest son was up, reading. I've gone kayaking with my 5 yr old a few times this year, but not with Dylan. I asked him if he wanted to go out and he gave an enthusiastic 'Yes". I was a little shocked, so I threw on clothes and we took off.

(I wasn't kidding when I said I threw clothes on. Yikes, what an outfit!)
We did the whole length of the lake (.85 miles) and back. This was Dylan's first time out this year, he really improved his technique. We had a blast. It was a good bonding experience.

When we got back, we saw some guy who had a racing 'skull'. It's like a water-skeeter, with a long, thin hull and two oars. He also lives right off the lake. It was interesting to talk to him and learn more about his boat. They are very unstable because they are so thin, but you can kick butt with them because they are so sleek. His personal best time is 18 minutes, mine is 28 minutes. It did feel great to get out even though it was rather late and the sun was getting real hot. So, that was my day pretty much. This is weird to write all of this down and have people visit and comment. I enjoy it, not every day is an exciting one, but it's another day!

07.16.05 Kayak Lake

I found this really cool program called Google Earth. If you put in an address, it zooms in using satellite photos to your location. It does not run on older PCs.
Check out my kayaking lake.

07.03.05 - The Past Few Days...

This was how I started my Friday,
I took a nice 2 mile kayak ride,
then came home for a good swim.

Then, we took our oldest son to camp,
his first time away at a camp. It looks
like it will be a very good experience for
him. One of his good 'buds' will be going too.

This was taken a few weeks ago.
This is our oldest son at his Karate class.
Look who he is fighting -
Himself!What a metaphor for life....

What a great morning it was today

First, there was the Sunrise

followed by a Full Moon Setting

with a side of Mist

or two.....
A very remarkable morning on Walton Lake. the full moon was setting as teh sun was rising. there was this tremendous mist rising from the lake. The pictures can not capture it. It really gives a feeling of being alive! Then I went home for a swim and there was mist coming off of my pool after I took the cover off. The air temp was mid 50's. A great way to start the day....

Then I saw the strangest sight...

SHARK!

Sunrise on Walton Lake

06.21.05 - Sunrise on Walton Lake
This is how I started my day! There was the coolest mist rising from the lake this morning, the lake was like a sheet of glass. I think I'd totally lose my mind if I didn't have this place to go to every day. I went 81 consecutive days last year.
